formulating a ointment
Hi, I’m trying to formulate an ointment well kind of copy one really… it’s used for psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, and dandruff but my husband finds it works well as a post shave kind of lotion/balm his neck chin less red and skin less irritable. The ingredients percentages I know are:
Salicytic acid - 1.8%
Sulphur - 5%Other ingredients which I do not know percentages are:
Petrolatum - ?
Paraffin - ?
Corn starch - ?
Fragrance - ?
Oxyquinoline - ? (couldn’t get anywhere)
Yellow No 11 - ?I decided to try a formula myself but it didn’t come out well at all to be honest too much Paraffin I think and husband said it started to burn a bit plus the ph level was in the reddish end so acid, so won’t be using that again the formula I tried was:
Salicytic acid -1.8%
Sulphur- 5%
Paraffin- 65%
Beeswax- 15%
Petrolatum- 10%
Corn Starch- 2.5%
Menthol- 2%I am finding it difficult to work out percentages for other ingredients and added beeswax as maybe a substitute for oxquinoline as could not get anywhere well except russia so thought I’d leave that….finding it difficult to work out ingredient percentages…any help appreciated
