Help- My toner doesn’t spray but shoots!
Hi all,I’m wondering what in my formula needs to be tweaked to obtain a spray functionality. Currently the formula just shoots out instead of having a fine mist. Thanks!Formula-Phase A:
- Aqua/water
90% - Kakadu
Plum 2% - Camu
Camu Extract 1.6% - blueberry
fruit extract 1.5% - Glycerin
1.5% - Lingonberry
Stem Cells 1% - Aloe
barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice powder .15% - sodium
hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) .15%
Phase B
- Tea
Tree Essential Oil .1% - Bergamot
essential oil .2% - Polysorbate
20 1%
Phase C
- Potassium
sorbate .2% - sodium benzoate .8%
pH is 4.5 - Aqua/water

sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) - how many daltons?

@ngarayeva001 I’m not sure how to calculate daltons but I’m using .15g in a 100g solution if that helps any!

@cm_skincare The molecular weight of hyaluronic acid is measured in Daltons (there’s low-, high etc. molecular weight), so it has nothing to do with the actual grams that you use in your solution. Check the specifications of your HA to figure out what kind you have

@evelinaco ahh gotcha. Well, this may be my problem. I see I purchased the version: Molecular weight 800-1200kDa. There is also a version called “super low molecular weight” which is only Molecular weight 8-15kDa. Should I be using the super low molecular weight version instead?

Your product is too viscous for a sprayer bottle. If it’s from lotioncrafter get the ultra low. Or save money and effort and replace it with another humectant.

Seconding dropping hyaluronic acid. I don’t suspect your problem is in your formulation as much as it’s in your sprayer. Does the sprayer spray water as you’d like?

@Sponge hi there! yes, the sprayer sprays water just fine. In fact, the first few sprays transitioning from water to my formula sprays fine but then eventually becomes the “shoot”. I ordered the super low molecular weight version of hyaluronic acid so i will try out the formula with that modification and see if that helps!

@Sponge and @ngarayeva001 just an update- i received the super low molecular weight hyaluronic acid and the toner is a much better, even spray! that definitely did the trickOne more question: with the lower molecular weight, do i need to adjust the percentage to my formula? In other words, is .15% of hyaluronic acid (regular weight) and super low molecular weight, equivalent in terms of contribution to the formula? or do i need to increase the % in my formula now?
