  How to thicken the conditioner

  Hi,

  Currently im on development stage to make hair conditioner with below formulation. 

  Demin water	82.4
  Glycerin	3
  Polyquartenium-10	0.5
  Cetearyl alcohol	6
  Cetyl alcohol	2
  Bis-aminopropyl dimethicone	2
  Dimethicone	1
  Ethyl lauroyl arginate HCl, Glycerin	0.8
  Propanediol (and) Aqua (and) Pisum Sativum (Pea) Peptide	2
  Candlenut glycolic extract	0.1
  Kiwi Extract	0.2
  	100

  I had a problem to emulsify for this formula, and the Cetyl or Cetearyl alcohol come to waxy form again in cooling process after i homogenized with Turax and the emulsion are not formed so they dont become thick. Anyone know what’s the solution for this problem?

  You can thicken with Hydroxyethylcellulose then cut back on the fatty alcohols.

  First, there is little or no point in using an expensive peptide product used in anti-aging products, in a hair conditioner.
  Correct me if I’m wrong but it sounds as if the emulsion separates out and fatty acids precipitate. If that’s so, your emulsification system isn’t adequate and I recommend:
  1. Eliminate the cetyl alcohol.
  2. Use a second emulsifier. Preferably two. I’d begin by changing the cetearyl to 4%, add 4% glyceryl stearate, and 2% Polysorbate 20. See how that works and adjust.

  You don’t have an emulsifier.
  Cationic emulsifiers (like cetrimonium or behentrimonium) work better in conditioners.
  Fatty alcohols (cetyl, cetearyl stearyl) should thicken the formulation once you have a proper emulsifier there.
