  • Fabric softeners color fading issue

Greetings to all the forum members.

I am encountering an issue with fabric softeners which is the fading of color. The product color changes significantly after a few days (say one week or so). What could be the reason for such a change ? My formulation has a well known Esterquat from BASF and HEC as the thickener. I am looking for rapid solution to this issue. I am aware of the fact that this forum discusses more of cosmetic products than home care products but it still has many experienced chemists guiding on a variety of topics.

I hope my query gets suitable response.

What dye are you using to colour the product?

The dye is E-122 Carmoisine 20%. It is a food grade dye. Can food grade dye be used for formulating home care products ?

Yes you can use food grade dyes in cleaning products.
I have never used E122 in a fabric softener so I have no idea of it’s stability but I have used FD&C Blue No.1 and it was stable in my formula.
You might want to investigate the Milliken Liquitint dyes as these are often more stable than food grade dyes.
