  • Niacinamide and Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate combination

    Hi,
I’d like to create an O/W lotion incorporating the actives 5% niacinamide and 3% ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate.  The final pH I’ll aim for is 5.5 (to allow for some drift as below 6 is recommended for Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate).  Can you think of any incompatibility issues between these 2 ingredients?  Will the niacinamide be stable at this pH (I’ve read it’s best stability is pH6).
    thanks!

No incompatibilities as far as I know. I also combine these two (oftentimes along with tocopherol and panthenol). My target pH is also around 5.5 (5.3 - 5.7).

@Doreen I was going to tag you in this post because I know you’re also using the VC IP at the moment! ?. Thanks so much for the comment,  good news you’ve come across no issues.  The rep said there was no data on the combination that he knew of. Have you found the VC-IP stable in the water based formulation?

Somewhat related, but I have used Niacinamide with both MAP and SAP, kept the pH at 5.5 and had a stable product substantiated by outside testing.

    Hi @Biochemist!
Sorry, didn’t read your question sooner, I was traveling (not a lot of WiFi around).
The formulation did indeed seem stable, no discolorations, pH drift etc.
