  • Fatty alcohols and silicones influence on emulsion viscosity

    Dear forum members,

I’m currently dealing with some o/w emulsions using different fatty alcohols and silicones (C5 and Dimethicone 20cSt). I’ve seen that using Stearyl instead of Cetyl alcohol usually results in a slight viscosity drop. Same thing when increasing (between 1-5%) silicone over mineral oil content, moreover with Dimethicone.
My surprise is that both seem to have an antagonism, resulting in a significant thinning of my emulsions. I’m wondering if you have observed the same phenomena.

    Thanks for sharing your experience
