  • Ideal SPF boosting film formers for mineral based sunscreens? 20 listed.

Looking to get the below 10% ZnO daily wear sunscreen/moisturizer up from SPF ~15 to SPF30.

    Base formula (OIW)
Water, Zinc Oxide, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Caprylyl Methicone, Ceterayl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Glyceryl Stearate, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Sclerotium Gum.

Will likely add Butyloctyl Salicylate as a pigment stabilizer to get from SPF15 to ~20-25. Then the ideal film former increases SPF 25%, decreases TEWL, waterproofs the formula and is safe for daily decade long use - it exists, right? smiley

Here’re the ones I’ve found, spanning from completely natural to completely synthetic, I’m fine with synthetics as long as they have a solid safety track record, especially since this is for a daily wear formula and not just an occasional wear sunscreen. Also waiting to hear back from DOW technicians to see if they have any tips.

This preparation used a lots of chemical
Few among them can be avoided if use wisely
My suggestion is it would be a good idea if we use only necessary ingredients
This will call classical pharmacy practice .
Otherwise if we use so many chemical then what’s the difference between us and branded product.

This is a very old discussion. The fact that it’s not active anymore should be an indication that the problem has probably been solved in the mean time.

You have also misunderstood the object of the post. It was merely a list of possible materials for the specified end use. It is not a LOI for a product.
