Hello friends…I am looking for raw material suppliers on the East Coast and I have had no luck with finding any. I am ordering from TKB and Making Cosmetics. I live in MA and the turn around time for orders is 2 weeks without spending upwards of $30 for quick ship. I am and educator and currently teaching classes at a local trade school. I am sometimes in need of an ingredient or packing Immediately for class and the School’s business office frowns upon overnight shipping. Do you have any sources? I am surprised I can’t find any in NY. Thanks. Miss Deb

The state and local regulations in the NY metro area (NY, NJ, CT) make running a business like this problematic, if not impossible. Chemophobia runs high there. Certainly impossible to do this and make a profit. I strongly suspect the same problem exists on the entire East Coast.

Maybe we can help, at least with inventory control, if not anything else. Why do you seem to run out so often?

There will be lots of suppliers showing their wares at the upcoming Suppliers Day in New York / New Jersey.  It might be good to go visit.

Thanks gentlemen! I will check out the New York Show. Bob you bring up very valid points. I am teaching at a Technical High School and teens eat this stuff up. Not literally of course. They want to make everything in every color. Since this is my first class at this school, I will gain much needed insight into inventory…and control! I very much appreciate your comments. Miss Deb

If you need something, post here. We might be able to help. (unofficially, of course).

I’m currently making soap for a living, so I’d be happy to advise you if you want to take a shot at it.

If you go to the NYSCC, wear comfy shoes, bring at least 300 business cards (leave them everywhere, you never know who can be helpful), and let us know if you need a recommendation for where to stay - the show is free, the hotels…aren’t.

Oh, and dress really needs to be a cut above business casual, if you want to be taken seriously.

Let us know also if you have trouble getting a badge. Apply now - it would be frustrating to be turned away at the door.
