Hi, What is used for thickening of liquid dishwash! The use of Zanthan Gum, and C.M.C do not result in smooth transparent liquid.!

You will need to provide more information if you want help. What surfactants are you using? At what percentages?

Depends on your surfactants…. Salt ?

Other ingredients are Sles, Sls and Coco Diethnolmide.

Have you tried salt (sodium chloride)?

Yeah also sodium sulfate but it didn’t result in transparent and smooth liquid. Wot about carbopol? any idea!

What concentration of surfactants are you using? It won’t thicken if you have insufficient surfactants.

Have you also tried adding some cocamidopropyl betaine?

please use potassium chloride or iodized salt to thicken. you need the correct weight of the sles and water and the correct procedure to do it so u get thick and very clear liquid dish washing soap

I know SLES, SLS at 15% active (combined) plus 2% Coco DEA will thicken to 5000 cps with 1.5% salt.  Of course this depends on the quality of your raw materials and your pH so that’s just a rough estimate.

What about Dimethyl Amine Oxide! Will it bring the desired thickness or have to add some salt also?

@sattar How about you do the trial and check how it comes out with salt only, with amine oxide only and with a little of both????

Sattar after mixing SLES AND SLS in water, add 2% CAMIDE DEA, you will notice slight increase in thickness. Then add CAPB and keep a check on the increase in viscosity and you will get desired viscosity then adjust it with salt.

you all are having this problems because you are making the liquid soap with un correct formulation

get the correct formulation and procedure to make and its very easy to make superb liquid soaps

@Chemist77 I tried salt and also KD (DEA) but didn’t get the desired result. didn’t try Amine Oxide due to its non availability.

There is a key item known as the salt curve. Check it out!

@sattar does the dimetyl amine oxide can be used as viscosity builder?, i mean, i run out of DEA and betaine, can i use de amine oxide instead?, how much salt i must use?. Im ussing SLS/SLES as main surfactan

how much sles are you using in ur recipe and u dont need all this  for viscosity only salt will be sufficent

sattar let me know ur formulation and i will let u know where u went wrong

@luiscuevasii I didn’t try Amine Oxide yet because of non availability. As far as DEA is concerned i think that in order to achieve the required viscosity it has to be added in a greater percentage. For SLS/SLES mixture you should try Synthalan W400.

Hand dishwashing liquids require a detergent with a fairly aggressive action to be able to deal with sometimes quite tenacious soiling of dishes and pots/pans.

Things like SLS and SLES are not really suitable for this - they are more suited to personal products.

The main “power” detergent of hard surface cleaners is an alkylbenzene sulfonate salt e.g sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate. This is often mixed with SLES or similar and an alkanolamide to provide a foam - often demanded by the consumer but which have little to do with cleaning properties.

The art of formulating a good dishwashing liquid is to have the cleaning power finish at the same time as the foam collapses.

The list you have given jivanijignesh doesn’t have a lot of meaning or enough detail for me to be able to make a reasoned comment.

I’ve used Potassium Oleate as a good thickener, but it restricts you to high pH products.

LABSA 96%, Alkali, Cocamidopropyl dimethylamine oxide, preservative, colorants, sodium chloride
