Need help with Basic Hair Conditioner Formula

Hi am Akshay,

I have recently set up a factory for manufacturing Cosmetic & detergent. As am new to this having some trouble with formulation. I am having trouble in thickening this hair conditioning formula and also wanted to know if it’s possible to make this formula in cold process? Cheers

1. Centrimonium Chloride 2.0

2. Lactic Acid 0.7

3. PEG6000 DS 0.5

4. Sodium Sulfate 0.5

5. Sodium Benzoate 1.0

6. Polyquaternium-7 0.2

7. Perfume 0.5

hi you can add cetyl alcohol by 2%

You might want to reduce your % of sodium benzoate as 1% is double what is normally used. Sodium benzoate is moderately good against gram+ve bacteria, yeast and moulds, but moderately poor against gram-ve bacteria so you’ll need to add another preservative to cover that.

I think he wont need too much of preservative here as cetrimonium chloride itself is a good antimicrobial but i m not sure if that 2% is active or 2% of 30% which is generally sold in the market.

@Akshay cetostearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate se, little LLP or any other light ester oil of your choice, a little of sodium benzoate and around 5-8% of cetrimonium chloride 30%, there u hv a basic working formula. You can add Polyquat 7 and other additives once u get the basic formula right.

Hi

Thanks for the help I will try to reduce the amount of Sodium Benzoate to around 0.10 % which I hope should be fine. The problem on my side is the lack of chemicals on the market, for example cetyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate se and cetostearyl alcohol are not available on the market, and to source it from other country would tend to be expensive. Not too sure if the PEG6000 DS is helping with thickening the product either.

Oh my, well I suppose then you should try with your PEG 150 DS, try increasing the quantity of PEG 150 DS if at all you dont have access to any other raw material.
