@Robert I’m sorry I meant more surfactant and more lower molecular thickeners. Betaine and glyceryl oleate and cocamide DEA are good and you can try increasing them to remedy the viscosity after decreasing peg-120.
-
Do you mean the texture becomes gelatin-like when cold? You can try thicken with higher % surfactant, and lower molecular thickener (alkanolamides, amine oxides, betaine, propylene glycol laurate , etc), but less higher moleculars that crosslink micelles (peg-150 distearate, peg-120 glucose deoleate, peg-150 pentaerythrityl tetrastearate) and less salt. Also there some water-soluble emollients can help with the gelatin issue, but I forget which.

What is the difference between INCI “xxxx oil” and “xxxx glycerides”? What chemical modification happened? And what is the point of this modification?

Would it cause color change?

@ketchito It could be from ajnomoto but you can have much cheaper choices these days. The residue potassium cocoate indicates that it was made from fatty acid rather than acyl halide which yields a purier version. Also I remember ajinomo had included some basic info of the acylglycinate/water/glycerin ternary system in their marketing materials.
-
@chemicalmatt Glycerin here is to disperse the crystals of the main surfactant acylglycinate to maintain an aesthetically pleasing form. It’s very common in Asian market.
-
@PhilGeis Sure it’s not good. The cleansers will grow pink mold around the opening/seal, after storing in bathroom for some time. This type of cleansers are very common here. Its always the pink mold.
-
@toketsu No, normal calamine lotion doesn’t have ethanol/isopropyl alcohol.
-
@MarkBroussard The potassium cocoate isn’t intentional, rather it’s the impurity of potasium cocoyl glycinate condensation.
-
Calamine lotions are not preserved.

If an emulsion can thicken it self without the use of polymers (saccharides/acrylates), can it be determined that’s LGN working here?If not, what would be the names for other kind of self-aggregation that can thicken an emulsion?
-
@ketchito Why polyglycerol-4 laurate only needs C12 hydrophobic group, while most other emulsifier are bond with ≥C16 (cetearyl gluside, sodium cetyl phosphate, behentrimonium chloride, ceteareth-20, peg-100 stearate…) (also why peg-100 stearate has to be ethoxylated to 100, uniquely high for a emulsifier!)

What is the group’s consensus? It’s just glorified fructose corn syrup. And the sticking to skin thing is called glycation, technically. Glycation/AGEs is generally considered to be a bad thing, especially in cosmetics/supplement/food marketing, right? For topical use, self-tanning lotion takes some time to work. So I doubt a rinse-off would leave much. -

MemberAugust 10, 2022 at 11:45 pm in reply to: Why is the use of etidronic acid and its salts restricted?@ketchito That would be strange because other phosphates aren’t restricted in cosmetics, like polyphosphate, triphosphate metaphosphates which worked as builders in detergents and caused seaweed disaster in the past. Also things like distarch phosphate and alkyl phosphate are freely and widely used. -

What makes undecylene chain special? Though I suppose undecylene derivatives don’t work the same. (because of targeting primarily towards fungus unlike glycols and others which are thought to be insufficient)But one would think they look alike.

White petrolatum will turn darker in sunlight. Its not as stable as it was believed.
