I would disagree. I am by no means an expert in this field but i’ve been experimenting long enough to where i routinely make stuff that is more effective than some top products on the market. Sometimes the top products aren’t the be…
@Abdullah interesting points, for some reason i always assumed SLS and SLES could solubilize just about anything, good to know ampthoterics and non ionics are just as good if not better. Maybe i just choose strange and difficult to solubilize fragra…
@RDchemist15 Often times the solubilizers will kill my viscosity, which in sulfate-free formulas is precious, especially when you have been restricted against using PEG thickeners like I have. So that is why I try to let the surfactants do the work …
@grapefruit22 i want to believe it...but if this is true that you can make an emulsion with bacteria why isn’t this the most revolutionary discovery in cosmetics right now? Shouldn't this be a bigger deal? I mean that’s a pretty gigantic discovery, …
@Graillotion so what you’re saying is... God forbid my cat accidentally knocks over a bag of Montanov 202 into a jug of oil when I'm not looking...I may have the next innovative face cream invention?!?
Well looking into the symbiome product more it seems that they are claiming that this lactobacillus ferment probiotic is somehow on its own both emulsifying and preserving the product. I’ve never heard of such a thing before...Bioemulsifiers? Pretty…
That’s strange...i would also like to know how they did that. If they are just omitting the emulsifier from their LOI that’s pretty risky for them, no?
on a similar note, and not to hijack your thread, i would like to know how this company made thi…
@MarkBroussard what was the outcome of that lawsuit? What is even the claim in lawsuits like this...do they claim that the product was contaminated, that it was made with unsafe ingredients, undisclosed ingredients, or what? How common are lawsuits …
I used distilled water. it’s quite possible, even likely, that it came into contact with metal when making it but i dont remember. I was not aware of that issue before now. Next time i will make sure it doesnt. Thanks for the tips!
@MariaGarcia interesting, so what can i do to prevent this? I suppose i could just make it as i need it and use it all up every time or discard the rest, but that is not ideal. There must be some way to store it without this happening...maybe i coul…
If you have to use it then yes, using less may help with that, but it also probably wont clean or foam as much. Maybe try adding some Cocamidopropyl Betaine as well.
I tried using plantapon sf in a shampoo and did not like it, it was harsh and/or drying if i remember correctly, not pleasant. None of the surfactant blends i tried worked for me in a shampoo. Not saying they dont exist (if they do please tell) but …
Indeed, Lotioncrafter and MakingCosmetics both say to keep it around 6. I’m glad to know I am free to formulate my ph down low where I want it. Someone should probably notify them of this error....I would tell them but not sure they’d take my word f…
You have a pretty simple
formula so it would be easy to to a knockout experiment. That should tell you what the problem ingredient is, and from there you can either decrease it or replace it entirely.
Thank you, I will try these suggestions.
personally I don’t have a problem with phenoxyethanol other than its smell, which is really not that bad just kinda strong sometimes, certainly not the worst as far as preservatives go (Tristat ECO is awful)…
@MarkBroussard
Thanks for the tips I will try that out.
My main reason for not using phenoxyethanol in this formula is that some people may have a reaction to it, either a real physical one on their face or an emotional reaction to the word itself…
@ketchito good idea I will try to buy this product and test it out myself.
@Abdullah it would
make for a pretty terrible product if the only
surfactant above 1% is decyl glucoside, but you never know! How are you accomplishing the pearl effect with…
