  • Yellowing of essential oil containing product

Hi, I am formulating a clear transparent massage oil containing eucalyptus oil. After 2 years of storage the product turns into a shade of yellow. Some reading suggests oxidation/polymerisation of essential oil. Any suggestion what is the antioxidant that is suitable? Or could it some other problem that causes the colour change?

    Full formula:

    Liquid paraffin
    Menthol
    Eucalyptus essential oil

Are you storing it in an opaque bottle or amber bottle?

Thank you for your suggestion. I checked with local suppliers and it looks like they don’t carry this. Unfortunately some ingredients are hard to find in where I live.

Thank you. I am considering between this and BHT since BHT costs much lesser.

I stored the oil in a transparent glass bottle. I also made an ointment with petrolatum base and kept in opaque plastic jar and eventually that turns yellow as well.
