Hi!  Thanks for approving me to join this forum.  My name is Paula, from the west coast of Australia. I have no background in Chemistry, barely made it through a few yrs of high school actually, but have had a bit of interest in cosmetics and formulating for some time.  I run a successful business in the animal industry, producing hair and coat conditioning treatments, grooming products etc, all of the products I have designed, formulated and manufactured myself, and I am proud to say the business does extremely well…we start exporting internationally very soon - and I have never marketed or advertised my products. It’s been a ‘from the kitchen bench’ type experiment, to learning everything I can about ingredients and formulating.
I would like to expand and produce some novel hair care products for the ‘human’ market as well, so I hope to pick up some tips from the amazing chemist brains on this forum, I am happy to share any of my own experiences if they are of any help also.

    Cheers :-)

    Hello there!

I’m from Itsallinmyhands and I have been trying to make REAL cosmetics at home for the last 3 years.
It all started with soap making and then I realized it was possible to make creams at home… so that got me! :D
Now I make almost everything by myself.
I love sharing the knowledge (the few I have) and I love to learn new things as well… so that’s why I am here :)
    Cheers! :D

I came across this website by googling questions about microbiology in cosmetics. I am fairly new to the industry scene as a microbiologist and I have a big appetite for any knowledge. There are so many questions that I have pondered about ever since I started and I hope it I can find some answers here. Thanks for the approval.

    Hi all,

My name is John, from New Zealand, but living in Taiwan.

I came across this awesome website whilst googling for cheaper alternatives to professional homogenizers (the search I did was “cosmetic mixing blades for electric drills”).

    Hello all,

I love this site and forum and have added to some discussions in the past under a different name, when I had to remain anonymous due to ‘trade secrets’.
Anyways, I am happy to come out and play again, especially as I am proud of my new website & projects.

I’m based in the Netherlands, Europe and my passion is fragrance and everything smelly :) Smelling, scents & perfume have been my passion all my life. It kinda entered my research career unnoticed (like most ambient scents do) almost 15 years ago and it stuck with me. By a combination of  sheer luck and seizing opportunities, I ended up working for the fragrance industry as an olfactory scientist, then as a perfumer and cosmetic scientist. After doing trade secret work behind the scenes of some of the biggest brands of the F&F industry, I decided it was time to own my skills and help others.

It feels a bit like starting over and a big smelly adventure :)

If you have any questions about smells, fragrances or scents, I’m your gal. And am always happy to learn new things and tricks of the trade.

    Smell you later! ;)

    Hello all,

I’m Sarah in Sarasota, Florida USA and just began Perry’s formulating class. I have a BFA in metalsmithing and enameling, so I guess I have some experience with the material sciences and chemistry of that arena though not from a scientific background. I’ve become very interested in cosmetic formulation over the past year and ready to start experimenting with making my own products. I have some ideas about marketing and packaging cosmetics and would love to make a great product to match! I’m so glad I happened upon this forum and that it seems to have some dedicated and active members to bounce ideas and get feedback from. I look forward to asking a lot of questions!
I am especially interested in SPF products and will be seeking advice on their formulation and regulations.
    Thanks Perry and all contributors,
    Sarah

    Hello everyone!
My background has been with all natural skincare products even though I am not a “trained” chemist. I have been doing this off and on for about 15 years creating and formulating all natural products. I had stopped for a while because of the down turn in the economy but recently have been asked to create, formulate and manufacture product for a new product line (mainly for men). I look forward to connecting with you all and learning more as we move forward in discussions.

    Hello Everybody,

My name is Nathalia, and I’m a Colombian chemical engineer. I just finished my master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, but the topic of research has nothing to do with cosmetics and I have absolutely no experience in this field. However, I would like to start my professional career in this industry, because I find it interesting and with a great future. Personally, I would love to enter to the research and development area, in order to innovate and create new products.
I just hope to obtain some guidance in this forum and learn from all of the professionals in this community.
