  • Texture of my cream formula is stringy

    Hi Everyone,

    I am trying to make a moisturizing cream and when you touch it with your finger and lift up it is stringy. Can anyone give me advice on what to change in my formula to stop this from happening? I have played around with lowering the glycerin but this does not seem to help much.

    1 Triethanolamine 0.50

    1 Hampene Na3T 0.10

    1 Glycerin 7.00

    1 Methylparaben 0.25

    1 Aloe Vera 10.34

    2 Lipowax D / Procol CS-20-D 3.50

    2 Capric/Caprilic Triglyceride 4.00

    2 Sweet Almond Oil 7.00

    2 Lipocol / Cetyl Alcohol 3.75

    2 Stearic Acid XXX 2.75

    2 Lipomulse 165 / Protochem GMS-165 3.00

    2 Sorbitan Stearate / Protochem SMS 0.25

    2 Propylparaben 0.10

    3 Glycerin 4.00

    3 Colloidal Oatmeal 2.00

    4 Ethylhexylglycerin 1.00

    4 Phenoxyethanol 1.00

    I might be the oatmeal. Try to formulate it without [or use it at very low input - 0.1%] and see how it goes.

      Hi Paprik - Thanks for the information. I thought it might be the oatmeal as well. However, I do want the oatmeal in at 2% for the soothing effects. Any ideas how I can reduce the stringyness of the cream without reducing the oatmeal?

        Use Oat oil in its place. It contains avenanthramides, the “soothing” component of oat.
