Hi everyone, I’m seeking assistance to address a stability issue. My face wash contains a 0.5% turmeric-infused oil and I’ve a challenge getting it to solubilizing as the solution became opaque and a white ring formed around the perimeter (see image) within 24 h of production. I’ve tried the following solubilizers without success:

    1. Peg 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil (at 10:1 down to 5:1 ratio)

    2. Polysorbate 80 (2:1)

    <u style=””>Formulation: (%)

    H2O: q.s. 100

    Na4 EDTA: 0.1

    Rose hydrosol: 15.0

    Glycerin: 8.0

    Polyquat 10: 0.75

    Caprylyl glucoside: 5.0

    Decyl glucoside: 4.0

    Coco betaine: 6.0

    Turmeric-infused castor oil: 0.5

    Tea tree oil: 0.2

    K sorbate: 0.2

    Phenoxyethanol: 0.75

Method: Combine H2O to polyquat 10 (slurred with glycerin) then stir for ~20 mins. Add turmeric then tea tree oil to the combined surfactants (when PEG-40 added, both phase were heated to 55 C). Add H2O phase to surfactant phase and stir. Add Phenoxy then K sorbate (dissolved in H20) and stir until homogenous.

As mention, all trials separated upon standing. Can anyone suggest a suitable surfactant or other ingredient to disperse/ solubilize the oil?

Was the oil infused with turmeric powder or dehydrated root? Maybe try experimenting with turmeric essential oil and see if you get the same problem.
