  • Solubilizer ratio for chemical sunscreens

Help please: I would like to formulate an SPF 50 chemical sunscreen which, because of this, contains a large % of filters. In order to ensure best solubilization of these, what would the ball park ratio of C12-15 alkyl benzoate have to be to the total quantity of sunscreen filters?

This all depends on the solid-state UV absorbers you are using. All have different solubilities and you will need to experiment. I’ll add that some are soluble in their liquid state partners. I.e. avobenzone is soluble in octicrylene and homosalate.

Thanks - now that we have received all the sunscreen samples we need, we will experiment….
