    Hi everyone,

I am looking for a ecocert fungicidal ingredient to pair with Euxyl PE 9010. I am working on a body lotion that has a pH of around 5.5. Packaging will be a squeeze tube. I got a quote for PET of about $591 so I want to feel a bit confident in my preservative selection before paying for it. I was thinking of adding 0.50% of Hexanediol CG (1,2 hexanediol <50% and caprylyl glycol <70%) from making cosmetics, but I’ve seen mixed reviews on Caprylyl glycol as it causes a flushing sensation/redness (read that on a previous post here).

    Phase A

    Water-qs

    Glycerin- 4%

    1, 3 Propanediol- 3%

    Allantoin- 0.1% (claims)

    Sodium Phytate- 0.2%

    Solagum AX- 0.25%

    Phase B

    Olivem 1000- 4%

    Stearic Acid- 2%

    Capric/Caprylic Triglyceride- 6%

    LexGlide N350- 2%

    Phase C

2% HMW Hyaluronic acid 1% solution (claims)

    0.1% herbal extract (claims)

    1% Euxyl PE 9010

Final pH is between 5-5.5. Thank you for your time!

That combination is not esp. good vs. fungi - or much else beyond phenoxy by itself.

Can you lower the pH enough to accomodate an organic acid?

      Hi Phil,

Thank you for your responses. Yes, I was considering dropping the pH to around 4.8 or so and switching to Euxyl K 703 (INCI: Phenoxyethanol (and) Benzoic Acid (and) Dehydroacetic Acid).

      Euxyl® K 703 contains:

      • Phenoxyethanol 78.0 - 84.0%
      • Benzoic Acid 11.0 - 13.0%
      • Dehydroacetic Acid 6.5 - 7.5%

I am definitely open to suggestions. Thanks brother.

Roger that! Thank you so much. I have lactic acid here. Would that be a better buffer option given the formula?

Citric lactic - suppose can try either. I’m just a preservative guy.

Haha. Preservative guys are the most important people in my opinion. Thank you for all you do. Take care.

Is Euxyl PE 9010 Ecocert approved? I thought Phenoxyethanol was not approved for Ecocert. This may have changed since I last checked.
