  • My Medium Shine product is drying matte

I have been working on a hair wax and have gotten everything where I wanted it, except that after 1/2 hr it dries from a medium shine to a matte finish.

I tried tried increasing the propylene glycol and adding Glycerine to the batch, which made it last a little longer, but still dries out.

How do I get the product to hold the shine?

    Using:

    Water 49%
    Petrolatum 6%
    Wax Lanolin 6%
    cetearyl alcohol 6%
    pvp/va copolymer 10%
    propylene glycol 4%
    carnuba wax 4%
    Ceteareth 25 3%
    pvp 1%
    mineral oil 4%
    ozokerite 3%
    Peg 40 castor oil 4$

I would start by increasing mineral oil to at least 10& and lower waxes proportionately. You should be able to tell what you want by a fast hand rub test.

Hand-rubbed test is not accurate, the texture is currently perfect. The problem is after 30 minutes in the hair it dries out.

How will mineral oil keep it from drying in the hair?

Good question - the only way is to get some non-evaporating water, which is super expensive.

@Belassi - I understand there will be evaporation with any hair product. What I’m trying to describe is that the shine of the product does not last.
