  • MANUAL DISH DETERGENT FORMULA - KEEPS CLOGGING THE DISPENSING SPOUT

Posted by saturday_skin on May 21, 2023 at 7:33 pm

I recently created a manual dish soap formula, but have been receiving complaints about dish soap clogging the cap/dispensing spout. What is the reason for this. The product is not very thick and dispenses easily. Should I reduce the viscosity? Any idea what’s happening?

    Below is the % breakdown.

    Water - 77.45%

    SLES(56%) - 3.5%

    SLS (needles) - 8%

    Lauramine Oxide - 8%

    Sodium Xyelenesulfonate - 2.5%

    MIT/CMIT - 0.3%

    Fragrance / Dyes - 0.3%

    Citric Acid - 0.5%

    Thank you in advance!

Is it Clogging the opening after it is dried in? Sometimes with dish soaps if they have time to dry out it accumulates over time and therefore clog the outlet. the formula itself does not look like there is something that can recrystallize within your formulation or anything.

If it is in fact an accumulation over time you could add an ingredient like glycerin to keep it moist for a longer time.

Your formula appears to be OK, though a chelant/anti-redeposition agent such as tetrasodium EDTA would make it 100% better for customers. I’d look into the dispensing closure itself. If using a turret-seal cap having aperture diameter of < 3mm, this might plug up with any formulation.
