Ingredients that oxidize very rapidly
There are a number of ingredients that would have great topical benefit, except that they oxidize very rapidly once they are in solution. In my experience, these ingredients include:
- Glutathione
- N-acetyl cysteine
- Glucosamine
- Vitamin C
All of these are soluble in water, but they start oxidizing almost immediately. Would it be possible to add any of these ingredients to the OIL phase of an o/w emulsion, in order to protect them from oxidation? In theory, the ingredient would be encapsulated in oil droplets where oxidation through water exposure would be impossible.
Any thoughts on this? Has anybody tried this in their emulsions?

No, it doesn’t work for L-Ascorbic Acid. The only way to stabilise it is to make the formula anhydrous. I have not had issues with Glucosamine in water based serums.
