  • How to add 5-10% menthol oil to this oil based product

Posted by mattd9159 on December 23, 2019 at 7:15 pm

    Ingredients:

Organic Aloe Leaf Juice, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Menthol Crystals, Capsicum Fruit Oleoresin, White Camphor Bark Oil, Sweet Basil Leaf Oil, Black Pepper Oil, Roman Chamomile Flower Oil, German Chamomile Flower Oil, Cinnamon Leaf Oil, Citronella Oil, Eucalyptus Leaf Oil, Helichrysum Flower Oil, Ginger Root Oil, Pink Grapefruit Peel Oil, Juniper Berry Oil, Lemongrass Oil, Peppermint Oil, Pine Needle Oil, Ravensara Oil, Rosemary Leaf Oil, Spearmint Oil, Wild Oregano Oil, Glycerin, Witch Hazel Water, Organic Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate

What emulsifying agent should we use to add additional 5-10% menthol?
Looks like carbomer is used in the product,  but would that be best to use to add the additional menthol?
Also what ratio of menthol to emulsifier should we use?
    Thanks a lot!
    Any help is much appreciated

Menthol will melt and dissolve in all the other oils and essential oils, just crush the crystals first and then give it some time and mixing.
Menthol is simply a crystalline essential oil and doesn’t require any emulsifier.

Understand with the emulsifier aspect, but it will make the product very thin when adding 5-10% menthol oil. How do we thicken it? What thickener and what proportion?
    Thanks
