Hello, I am hoping the experts can give me some feedback on this rinse off hair conditioner formula. It is only for personal use so I don’t want to include anything that will just wash down the drain (I see from reading this forum that the panthenol is probably not useful). I have processed curly hair.

    DI  - 78.5

    BTMS  - 6

    Cetyl alcohol - 2.5

    Olive oil PEG-7 esters - 2

    Cetac - 2

    Hydrolised wheat protein - 2

    Panthenol - 2

    Dimethicone - 2

    Cyclomethicone - 2

    Liquid germall plus  0.5

    Fragrance - 0.5

I am looking to produce something conditioning but that is not too thick. Could you also advise on the pH I should be aiming for - as low as 4.0?

    Thanks in advance.

@Mel55 I’d reduce the BTMS (6% could weight down hair since it’s very substantive and has long chain…go for something around 2-3%). Add some non ionic emulsifier (non-ionic are better than cationic emulsifiers, like ceteareth-20…try it between 0.2-0.5%, depending on the thickness you want for your product). Panthenol is a bit too high, and it’d probably go away through rinsing, so you can also reduce it. You could also use cetearyl alcohol instead of cetyl alcohol, to get more thickness (again, depending on the amount you want for your conditioner).
