just a simple question on what is the best broad spectrum preservatives for mists which is 95% water, with bug loving extracts such as aloe vera powder etc?
Was thinking of using Chloramcetamide? But doesnt sound very nice.
I would suggest the usual sodium benzoate/ potassium sorbate when the pH is 4.0-5.0. What exactly is the application of your mist?
face mist, leave on product.
how much do you recommend?
Maximum allowable limits for leave on products are:
Sodium benzoate - 0.5% Potassium sorbate 0.6%. You have to perform a preservative efficacy test to prove the micro stability of your mist.

cossci21 those two organic acids will likely not be sufficient and sodium benzoate has failed some patch tests we carried out. There's far more to preservation than just adding a preservative. You need a strategy. Handy checklist and reviews of 27 preservatives here -

aware of pot sorbate and sodium benzoate, pot sorbate is a a irritant and need a low pH to be active so will definitely not use that.
Aware of parabens an love them but not for our natural clients unfortunately. :-(
