Well, I know that btms-50 already has cetyl alcohol in it (INCI:
Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetyl Alcohol (and) Butylene Glycol) so you typically wouldn't use more cetyl alcohol with it, at least that's what I've been told. That said, I have seen some products with btms-50 and stearic acid and cetearyl alcohol all in the ingredients listing.
what is the reason not to use cetyl alcohol with btms? it doesn’t have enough to assure good viscosity. stearic acid is draggy. can it be used? yes, but the product won’t be aesthetically pleasing
Agreed....I avoid stearic at all cost. Thing with stearic just don't have the texture I require. Granted I use it in one difficult product...My mosquito lotion....otherwise I always formulae around it.

Interesting...yeah I've used ceryl alcohol with btms in the past but then some time ago, someone pointed out that I should use something else, such as cetearyl alcohol, since btms50 already has cetyl alcohol. I guess it would just depend on the percentages used. And I 100% agree with you about stearic acid...WAY too dragging, even at 1% or 2%! 😖

Hope that helps!
