How to formulate banana into my product?

Hi, I am trying to create an at home face mask that I would be able to preserve and eventually sell. One of the ingredients I would like to include is banana. I want to include the fruit itself and the peel. I wanted to know if this was possible with the use of certain preservatives or if the banana is something that would just expire to easily. I am not a chemist but I am doing test runs of this mask and it definitely works at clearing the skin I just wanted to know if this was possible. Any information would help thank you.

    A mushed banana would be tricky, I don't think you could  realistically preserve it. Cosmetics typically go for very long shelf life of say a year, maybe 6 months after opening. Plus I can't imagine the stickyness of mushed banana would have a great feeling

     An extract would be much easier like doreen said. Glow recipe uses actual fruit in their product but they soak it in preservative

    you could use the powdered fruit
    UK based formulation chemist. Strongest subjects: hair styling, hair bleaches, hair dyes (oxidative and non-oxidative) I know some stuff about: EU regulations, emulsions (O/W and W/O), toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoos, other toiletries

    @Bill_Toge wouldn't that be bug food anyway?

    @ngarayeva001 - yes, it will be bug food & it won't provide a significant benefit.

    @ngarayeva001 aha that might be where  I remembered seeing it from! Big solution of  Liquid Germall would be my choice- but their ingredients list doesn't show any preservatives which is a bit concerning, and they claim to be free of parabens and formaldehyde releasers. Considering you can find actual chunks of fruit in their bottles I wouldn't trust  many other preservatives to keep that formula safe.

    @ngarayeva001 and @EVchem, I remember seeing that video and asked myself: "Wow! A month in that vat?" 

    I kept thinking that it could be something like glycerin (but it would be more viscous), or propanediol / glycol. Or something along these lines. If proportions between solids and diols were right, you could have a self preserved mixture, while at the same time extracting water from the watermelon. 

    At least it would explain why some of the pieces where discolored to a pinkish-yellow and becoming translucent.

    They also claim their products to be "silicone free" but they use simethicone (according to their LOIs). 
  • I always get surprised when I see simethicone in cosmetics. It's mostly used as IBS treatment.
