Polysorbate 80 in floor cleaner

    Is it okay to use Polysorbate 80 in floor cleaner instead of lauryl alcohol ethoxylate? As Polysorbate is also an nonionic surfactant..

    @jamsinekhatri  i guess that polysorbate 80 can be used in floor cleaner cause it helps in cleaning oils .

    @jamsinekhatri do you need Polysorbate 80 to emulsify fragance or as a cleaning aid?

    Floor cleaners aren't properly rinsed out like shampoos or shower gels,
    so you'll need to make sure ingredients don't leave a residue on floor.

    Too much PS80 may leave a sticky residue.
    To exclude all other variables, you can dissolve PS80 in water, mop some floor with it, and compare it too plain demineralized water.

       Hi Gunther,

       I m only going to use it 1-3% (max) ... I m trying to use Polysorbate 80 instead of lauryl Alcohol Ethoxylate  .

    Otherwise I don't see why you'll prefer it to alcohol ethoxylates.

    For floor cleaners check your local regulations on  Volatile Organic Carbon, so you can add some alcohol both for quicker drying and to kill some bacteria on floor.

    For a floor cleaner you don't want too much surfactants, as they ain't properly rinsed away and can leave a residue on drying.

       Its hard to get alcohol ethoxylates in India (Delhi). So was just asking. Will it okay to add IPA (8%-10%)?

    If I use alcohol ethoxylates? What   "%" do I need to use?

    I'm pretty sure you can find alcohol ethoxylates in a large city like Delhi
    you just need to dig deeper.

    For a floor cleaner I believe 8% IPA would be quick drying and  but you need to try it to see if it smells too much
    you may wish to substitute some alcohol for a glycol ether.
    Alkylbenzene sulfonates at 3-5% will provide superior cleaning to alcohol ethoxylates or polysorbates.

    LABSA is Alkylbenzene Sulfonates??

    LABSA is the free acid
    you'll need to neutralize it with Sodium hydroxide to get Sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate.

    You can also check to see if you can buy the readymade sulfonate.

      I will get alcohol ethoxylates. I think using it 3% max will be good enough.
