  • Alcohol in face serums

Adding 4-5% ethanol to my microemulsion gives it much greater high temperature stability. The product is plenty stable at room temperature without ethanol, with undisturbed samples being stable for about 5 months so far without agitation. However, high temperature stability would be nice to have for our accelerated stability tests ahead of our capital raise.

My questions are about skin tolerance and public perception of alcohol (denatured ethanol) in leave-on products, especially in face serums. What percentage (if any) is tolerable in leave-on products? Will the mere mention of alcohol turn a significant number of people away? I do see major brands adding alcohol to leave-on products for the face, though it’s not in a majority of their products.
