  • Additions to my shampoo formula?

Posted by Mel55 on March 12, 2021 at 12:40 am

    Hello,

I am wanting to make a basic mild
shampoo.  So far my formula looks like
    this:

    H2O – 57%

Iselux SLC (sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate, sodium
    lauroamphoacetate, cocamide mipa) – 40%

    Polyquaternium 7 – 2%

    Liquid germall plus – 0.5%

    Fragrance – 0.5%

I plan to adjust the pH t0 5.0 using
citric acid. I am wondering if there is any benefit in adding Glucotain Sense
(2%) and Lamesoft (2.5%) to this formula to increase mildness, or is this
overkill?  I haven’t worked with Iselux
SLC before and am not sure whether it will need thickening (I assume sodium
    chloride would not work here).

    I would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks,

    Mel.

    It should thicken with salt

Fine the way it is, though a tad more of the PQ7 would not hurt and not add much cost either. Also @Abdullah is right about that NaCl. Should not take much.

Thanks so much to you both, very helpful. @chemicalmatt, I also have PQ10, should I use that instead of PQ7? If so, I assume at 0.5%. Also, I have seen your early comments about avoiding fisheyes. Am I correct that when using PQ10, I should dissolve it completely in cold water before adding other ingredients? Thanks again.

Another quick question, would there be any benefit to including cocoamidoproply betaine (30% active) in this formula to increase mildness, or would it be of little use with this surfactant blend?

    Thanks again,

    Mel.
