We use ALS in our Shampoo and also cationic guar gum, HPMC and regular guar gum. These ingredients need to increase the pH of formula for an hour or two above pH 7, around pH 9 in order to hydrate easily because Shampoo is cold process.

Does ammonium lauryl sulfate release ammonia or decompose if it’s pH is higher than 7 for 1 or 2 hours during manufacturing Shampoo?

Affirmative. It releases ammonia even at RT if the pH is left higher than 8.

@chemicalmatt thanks. I wanted to add surfactants first and then guar gum and cationic guar gum. It was more convenient this way. So now i should add ALS after adding guar gums and adjusting there pH.
