%1 ethanol in sodium phytate solution

I use sodium phytate powder as chelating agent and want to make %50 solution of it for ease of use. Store it at pH around 12.
 Here are two products with %50 of this product.

dermofeel® PA
%50 phytic acid
%50 water

dermofeel® PA-3
%50 sodium phytate
%49 water

%1 ethanol

Question:
Is %1 ethanol necessary in second product?

I have seen no problem making 50/50 sodium phytate/water solution and used it withen a week. I am thinking why is Evonik adding %1 ethanol.
