Bottle Paneling - Standard Accelerated Study?

Hello fellow chemists!

A question on bottle paneling (collapse of the walls), is there a standard (or best practice) for an accelerated test to determine if packaging will do this?

I am about to be forced into a lower mass package (aka thinner walls) with the same volume due to supply issues and would like to determine rapidly if this is going to give us problems down the road.

Here are my thoughts; Fill it up to claim and incubate at 40C for 3 months. Monitor weight loss and make sure it doesn't exceed 5%? I'm literally just using intuition here because I cannot find any literature on this.

    You are right, sir, there aren't any Standards that I know of unless the resin makers have one. I think your protocol will do fine, all the same, no hotter than 40C. My own experience: PVC & PETE cylinders fail the most, especially if the product has a high oil load content. HDPE holds up better since it has higher vapor permeation. Ovals of any resin will do OK depending on the size.
