Fragrance survey......

I am super picky about the scent of my products...as the now over 100 sample bottles of fragrance oils can attest.  Among the 100, there are two that I like, maybe 3, and two others I can tolerate.
As I am working on a facial cream product, that I intend to be pretty high end, I am looking at two natural fragrances and would like your feedback, as facial creams are completely new to me.  I realize facial creams are very lightly scented, so keep this in mind as you prepare your answer....whatever is used, will be a very light scent.  A quick scan of Amazon... I think 'Rose' scented (facial) products might me a leading candidate.

The two I am looking at are Rose (Bulgaria) 3% in Jojoba and Jasmine Grandiflorum 3% in Jojoba.  Normally I would just buy both...and give them the smell test...but at more than $40.00 per 100 ml sample...I am trying to avoid that.

So in a nutshell what I am asking... Would Rose or Jasmine be the more preferred scent?  Is rose so common, that it would not set my product apart?  Is Jasmine too unique that it would limit sales?  Your marketing thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  • Jasmine is something of an acquired taste, I think Rose would be preferred by more people. I'd say though that on it's own, it can be quite "old-fashioned" - don't know what your target audience is but I don't think it would appeal massively to the younger market.

Only your customers can answer this but in general, I'd go with what is most popular on the market. Then let your marketing and brand story make the sales for you. Very few people find the performance of a product so compelling that they don't want to try anything else. Brand loyalty is built through the brand story.
