BTMS50

GARIFUNAGARIFUNA Member
Until today I have always seen BTMS50 listed as  behentrimonium methosulfate, cetyl alcohol and butylene glycol. I came across a site with the inci that only had behentrimonium methosulfate and cetyl alcohol. Is this product real? Is there really a version of BTMS50 without the butylene glycol?

    @Garifuna:

    Virtually all variants of BTMS are MS + Cetearyl Alcohol or MS + Cetyl Alcohol + Butylene Glycol.

    Perhaps someone has developed a versions comprised of MS + Cetyl Alcohol only.  Are you finding this on a re-packer website or on a manufacturer's website?

  • @MarkBroussard this is a repacker site and I have since  heard from the owner of the company. According to the individual  butylene glycol is a processing ingredient and as such does not have to be listed in the inci in the U.S. He said that it may not even be in the final product. However the fact that Croda lists it as part of the ingredients makes me question that. In other words this particular product is good old regular btms 50. I thought it was something new but apparently it isn't.

    Technically, that may be true.  You oftentimes see re-packers rename the ingredient and slightly switch up the LOI ... usually an indication that they do not have a formal distribution agreement with the manufacturer of the product.
