  • URGENT!! BODY WASH - Stringy

Posted by cosmetic_chemist on November 18, 2021 at 6:10 pm

The body wash is extremely stringy.
    pH is 6.00 at 22 deg C

    Aqua
    Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate
    Cocamidopropyl Betaine
    Sodium Methyl Oleoyl Taurate
    Lauryl Glucoside
    Coco-Glucoside
    Phenoxyethanol
    Glycerin
    Citric Acid
    Tetrasodium EDTA
    Essential oils - For fragrance

What is causing the stringiness and how do I fix it?

How are you tickening your body wash? Why are you using similar surfactants like Lauryl Glucoside and Coco-glucoside?  What is your total surfactant concentration?

Cocamidopropyl betaine is the thickener. The surfactants are a blend and are in at 20% in total.

There is nothing that stands out as causing the stringy behaviour.
    Are you using Iselux Mild?
If you gave the percentage of each of the raw materials this might help identify the cause.
You could try removing the glycerin and essential oils to see if these are the cause of the issue.

I had read somewhere that all surfactant with ole-chain would tend to give a stringy feel. Not sure if it’s true or not.
Oleic acid soap is famous for its stringy.

Yes i am using iselux mild at around 20%.

I am also adding salicylic acid 1% in propylene glycol. could that be the cause?

@Cosmetic_Chemist You might want to add a conditioning agent, like a cationic polymer or silicone.

@Cosmetic_Chemist you are defining an attribute but not a variable. Does this body wash have a really high viscosity? Sounds like it to me. That could well be the “stringy” thing itself.
