Serum won’t clear up
Hi everyone! I’m working on a snail mucin serum that needs to be completely clear, but every time I make it, it turns out cloudy. I can’t change or add new ingredients, but I can change procedures and concentrations (only requirement: snail mucin at 1%). Please let me know what you think:

Butylene Glycol 10%
Allantoin 0.1%Panthenol 0.1%

Snail Mucin Powder 1%
HMW HA 1.2%

I don’t think you’re going to be able to get a clear solution with the GMCY in there … it’s oil soluble. Ditch it for a water-soluble alternative

Unfortunately, we aren’t able to remove or change any of the raw materials. The customer we’re working with already has this product on the market, but is moving to my facility for manufacturing, so I have to keep the ingredient list the same. I did notice that the formula gets cloudy even before the GCMY is added, so I’m assuming there’s multiple factors contributing to the cloudiness.

Still on my learning journey, so I have some questions, please😇
While I do understand your wish for a clear product, why do you consider your preservative system a good one? Does it really cover Gram+, Gram-, yeasts&molds?
And why no use of a chelating agent?

Is there existing product and/or sample clear OR are they insisting that the final product be clear?
If it’s the latter, you will simply have to manage expectations.

You might try dropping the Phenoxy down to 0.6%. While your ingredients may be the same INCI, are you using the same suppliers? That could well be part of your problem. Did the customer give you just a LOI or a full formula with ingredient suppliers included?

From what i understand your client provided you with the product formula and asked for the same results, did they provide the %? did they impose the same RM supplier? i mean, with 100% of the same data as the previous manufacturer you SHOULD get the same final result. otherwise, something is clearly missing (inexact formula +++) keep us updated
