Dry Clay Mask
Hello, I wanted to create an anhydrous clay mask consisting mainly of kaolin and french green clay for personal use, where I can add water in a small amount of clay when using. Since it is still at the risk of microbial growth, I wanted to incorporate Liquid Germall Plus. I think Propanediol 1,3 would work with this preservative and enhance skin feel after washing off. I am not planning to add an oil, but does propanediol 1,3 mix well with clay? Should I add an oil, hemisqualane or something similar? Since clumping is not an issue, I also wanted to add %0.5 anionic xanthan gum for both a jelly texture and cleansing effect. I will not use this particularly as a cleansing product, but does xanthan gum being anionic also help cleanse on its own or contribute to clay in cleansing? I know it will be difficult to ensure equal dispersion of ingredients, especially xanthan gum, but supposing that I will add the same amount of water or slightly more when using, below is the ingredient list:
Kaolin - 46%
French Green Clay - 46%
Propanediol 1,3 - 7%
Anionic Xanthan Gum - 0.5%
Liquid Germall Plus - 0.5%

microbial growth if it is not stored wet after use.I developed may of these products for the global brands I formulated for, and never had any issues with the various cosmetics compliance authorities, or the products themselves.

Oh that’s great, I never found a dry clay mask that contained preservatives online but saw potential issues after reading forum entries here. I also looked up a dry grain scrub containing no preservatives but that’s where I got the idea of including Propanediol 1,3. I guess the trick is purchasing sterilized clays and maybe slightly adjusting the acidity while adding water to not be irridated by the pH of the clays. Thank you!
