I have a problem with my formulation of rinse off hair mask. Over time, the viscosity of the hair mask increases so that it becomes extremely thick????. i use this ingredients:
cetrimonium chloride: 6%
glycerin: 2%
EDTA2Na: 0.1%
methyl paraben: 0.3%
propyl paraben: 0.2%
cetyl alcohol: 5%
behentrimonium chloride: 1.5%

Assuming this is a rinse-off mask, you can some oils to make your emulsion interphase less rigid (like silicones and esters).

what is your opinion about percentages?
I added 6% paraffin to this formula but it was watery and thin.

6% of paraffin oíl might be a little too much. Start with 1-2%. I don’t think you’d need more…although, I’d personally prefer silicones.

Yes, but you won’t give lubrication to hair which is a must for hair masks. Keep in mind also that emulsions tend to increase im viscosity over time, while the structure stabilizes. There’s also an increase due to water loss.

Use a cellulose polymer ie natrasol 250HHR to avoid thixotropy in storage with 1% Wt cetyl alcohol plus emulsifier brij 721

Honestly, I want to achieve result with the basic formula that I sent, without use polymer or emulsifier. Can I reach the result by increase or decrease the amount of raw materials?

You can always try to play around with percentages but without changing raw materials your formula probably won’t function well. As ketchito said, you don’t have enough lubrication without adding esters (or oils). I would switch up at least a part of cetyl alcohol to a waxy ester like cetyl palmitate and also add a little ester in liquid form to reduce rigidity even more (and have Conditioning effect). Cetyl alcohol in 5% gives too much rigidity to your formula and can also lead to stability issues.
