  • Effect of CAPB vs CAPB: APG as co surfactant on polymer and silicone deposition in hair

This is a data from supplier.

    SLES 12% active
    Cosurfactant 4% active
    0.2% jaguar exel
    2% dimethicone emulsion
    1% NACL

They compare silicone deposition with Sodium lauroamphoacetate, coco glucoside and a mixture of these two as co surfactant.

Their data shows that blend of Sodium lauroamphoacetate + coco glucoside as co surfactant deposit most silicone compared to each of them alone

I made samples with same formula but CAPB instead of Sodium lauroamphoacetate and 0.24% active amodimethicone instead of dimethicone emulsion.

Samples had CAPB: coco glucoside at ratios 100:0, 50:50, 60:40 as cosurfactant.

    10 people evaluated these Shampoos.
6 people did like the dry hair feel from Shampoo with CAPB alone as co surfactant.
4 people couldn’t tell the difference.

So i thought maybe CAPB alone as cosurfactant deposit more silicone in hair than if combined with coco glucoside which would be the opposite of this data from supplier.

    My questions

    1. If SLES:co surfactant ratio is 3:1, which one would deposit more silicone and cationic polymer  in hair?
And which one will remove silicone and cationic polymer better on next wash?
CAPB alone or CAPB: APG 50:50 as co surfactant.

@Abdullah.  A ratio of 2:1 SLES: CAPB will work better at coacervation and dilution-deposition of the silicone and cationic guar combination. Adjust accordingly. I have never seen any good results with dilution-deposition onto hair with the APGs. I would leave it out of this project altogether. The CAPB will remove deposits just fine by itself.

    @chemicalmatt what about 1:1 ratio?
Will it work even better than 2:1 or the sweet spot is 2:1?
