  • Is HMPC compatible with this formula and when should it be added?

I have a shampoo formula with the following ingredients but I am thinking about swapping Sorbithix for HPMC. Just wondering if there are any incompatibilities I should know about here and also how and when it would be best to add the HPMC.

    PHASE A

    Sodium Phytate
    Aloe Vera Juice
    Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate

    PHASE B

    Sodium C-14-16 Olefin Sulfonate
    CAPB
    Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside

    PHASE C

    Polyquaternium 10

    PHASE D

    Sodium PCA

    PHASE E

    Polysorbate 20
    Fragrance

PHASE F (all ingredients here mixed in individually)

    Sorbithix l-100
    Euxyl 9010
    Citric Acid

The Sorbithix works fine it’s just expensive. I have never worked with HPMC so I’m just not sure about where in the process I would add it and what are the best methods for dispersing it.

    thank you for any tips.

A tip: Get rid of the Sodium PCA. It’s expensive for a wash-off product. You can use a bit of Glycerin instead.

@GeorgeBenson Those polymers are better added to the water phase, at the start of the process, and with good mixing to avoid clumps and speed hydration.
