eye cream gel
Posted by kconley on July 29, 2021 at 3:46 amI found a formula for a gel serum for the eyes to help with dark circles. The formula says 3% hexylene glycol. I cannot find this ingredient for the life of me. Does anyone have any suggestions for a substitute?

What country do you live in?
Have you tried searching all the synonyms?
You sure you want that around your eyes?
Any chance you are looking for: 1,2-hexanediol?

Hexylene glycol is a synonym for 1,2-hexanediol. However, in cosmetics, it often refers to a diol which is not a glycol in sensu stricto: 2-Methyl-2,4-pentanediol.Hexanediol is a multifunctional mostly used as preservative at lower levels and does not help with eye issues what so ever unless it’s dry skin but its humectancy isn’t that great. ‘Hexylene glycol’ is just one of the fancy glycol humectants and can be replaced by isopentyldiol (if you like it fancy), pentanediol or hexanediol (if you like additional preservation boosting), or glycerol (if you like it cheap). Its solvent capactity might be mimicked best by hexanediol and/or isopentyldiol.

I get mine here:
Hexanediol CG (makingcosmetics.com)
As I am using it more as part of a preservative program…the added caprylyl glycol does not bother me. Due to price…I think you should consider some alternatives as mentioned above.

thank you. Hexanediol CG s not cheap. Do i really need it? The formula has it at 3%? The preservative (i think germell plus) is already on the list if ingredients

If $$ bothers you: Glycerin, propanediol, and/or butylene glycol are your new BFFs.

I don’t think Liquid Germall plus is on the IL. It’s Euxyl PE 9010.
Also, I would not include any fragrance into eye product, as the skin is very thin and easily irritated. Just my opinion -
take an equal amount of aloe vera gel,Glycerine and 2-3 drops of almond or coconut oil mix it well.
your best eye cream gel for dark circles is ready. you can store this in refrigerator for 15-20 days.
