Which one if these has a higher buildup potential? I am seeing mixed statements about  polyquat 10. Some places say low build up potential and others say high. I am now confused. Also, how does cationic guar compare in terms of build up?  And finally I read some good things about polyquat 44? Has anyone worked with it. I see it is recommended for shampoo but can it be used in a conditioner? Thanks

The debate over conditioning effectiveness between these two polymers continues on…but my vote goes for low MW Polyquaternium-10 (aka Polymer JR-400) in shampoo/cleanser systems. Some folks hedge and use both.  As for build-up, the cationic guar usually will build less, but that may depend upon what else you have with it, e.g. dimethicone.
