AmorePacific mulls patent lawsuit against Lancome

Few years ago AmorePacific invited a product called "cushion". It's an extremely liquid high SPF foundation stabilized in a sponge in a package like for pressed powders. They made a lot of other innovations for the product, like an anti-bacterial sponge which gives a refreshing sensation when you touch the sponge on the skin.

Now... Lancôme is launching an almost identical product:

P.s: the report "says" AmorePacific sold more than 2,500 cushions last year... I guess they meant millions.

    :D
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

It's a shame that multi-billion dollar companies have to copy small companies instead of being much more innovative, considering their financial capacity, which will also create more jobs and feed the economy.

AmorePacific (my first time of hearing about them) is clearly an underdog and may not be able to sustain a long court battle with Lancôme, considering they also have running battles with LG Household & Care & Dior already. Perhaps, Lancôme is strategically picking its battle with a financially "weaker" opponent.

Korea’s ‘Cushion Boom’ Changes Global Beauty Trends-

AMOREPACIFIC’s Cushion products to exceed 50 million units in cumulative global sales during January 2015- Used by 75% of Korean women, the innovative cushion is now creating a global beauty trend beyond its popularity in Korea:

  • I love it when a "David" wins in a market dominated by "Goliaths".
It gives hope to the dream of a small operator.

Usually the David just agrees to a buyout by the Goliath.  (e.g. Burt's Bees, Toms of Maine, etc)

Some version of this kind of copying goes on all the time in the cosmetic industry.  I remember that much of the marketing done by the company I worked at involved going to Sephora and seeing which products were popular enough for us to copy.

It doesn't matter how much money you have.  Everyone can come up with an idea.

Of course, ideas aren't worth anything unless you do something with them.
  • Thumbs up, Perry!
